Standards for safety sensors

In November 2003, ISO established the international safety standard "ISO 12100", which defines machine safety as "no unacceptable risk" and sets out the general principles of machine design.

Equipment necessary to maintain machine safety set by ISO12100 and related standards is called safety equipment.

About safety sensor

Those that meet the "Product Safety Standards for Safety Sensors, etc.
(IEC61496) used to protect the safety of people when using machines" are generally called safety sensors.

Hokuyo Electric manufactures the UAM series as a product based on "IEC61496) -3: AOPDDR, Requirements for Safety Laser Scanners".

About the monitoring area to be set

In the safety sensor, if there is a human body in that area, there is a high possibility of an accident, so the machine is required to stop in the "danger area (protected area)", and after the human body invades that area, it reaches the dangerous area. There is a "detection area (warning area)" that detects entry so that the machine can stop by.

Each range includes "Positioning of protective equipment based on the approach speed of human body parts (JISB9715 (ISO13855))" and "Safety of machinery-Safety distance to prevent upper and lower limbs from reaching dangerous areas (" It is derived by calculation based on standards such as JIS B9718 (ISO 13857)).
